Supreme Court Seeks Uttar Pradesh Government’s Response on Azam Khan and Son’s Bail Plea in Machine Theft Case

Keyword: Azam Khan bail plea, Supreme Court notice, machine theft case

On Monday, the Supreme Court of India directed the Uttar Pradesh government to respond to a legal plea filed by former State Minister Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam Khan. The plea challenges the Allahabad High Court’s decision to deny them bail in a 2022 criminal case involving allegations of machine theft.

A two-judge bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Aravind Kumar issued the notice, urging the state government to submit an official reply. The court’s intervention follows the Khans’ contestation of the Allahabad High Court’s September 21 decision, which dismissed their bail applications.

The criminal case pertains to allegations that Khan, his son, and five others stole a road-cleaning machine purchased by Rampur district’s Nagar Palika Parishad. Reports suggest that the machine was allegedly found at Azam Khan’s Jauhar University, adding a layer of complexity to the accusations.

The legal battle marks yet another chapter in the series of controversies surrounding Azam Khan, a senior Samajwadi Party leader. Known for his influence in Uttar Pradesh politics, Khan and his family have faced several legal challenges in recent years, often accusing political rivals of targeting them unfairly.

The Supreme Court’s notice indicates a closer judicial scrutiny of the case, potentially impacting the Khans’ legal and political standing. For now, all eyes remain on the Uttar Pradesh government’s forthcoming response and the subsequent proceedings in India’s apex court.

The matter reflects the intersection of politics and legal accountability, with broader implications for governance and public trust.
