Former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji’s legal battle continues as a Sessions Court extended his remand until April 17. Balaji, a prominent leader of the DMK, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in June 2023 in connection with a money laundering case.
Appearing before Principal Sessions Judge S Alli via video-conferencing from the Central Puzhal Prison, Balaji’s judicial custody was prolonged, pending further proceedings in the case.
Additionally, the court announced that it would deliver its verdict on Wednesday regarding a petition submitted by Balaji. The petition requested a reopening of arguments on his behalf in his discharge petition, with his previous arguments having been concluded on March 22.
The charges against Balaji stem from his tenure as Transport Minister during a previous AIADMK regime, implicating him in a cash-for-jobs scam linked to the money laundering case. Despite several attempts, his requests for bail have been consistently denied by the courts.
As the legal proceedings progress, the outcome of Balaji’s discharge petition hearing holds significant implications for his future in the case.
