Faridabad Court Sentences Woman and Lover to Life Imprisonment for 2018 Double Murder

Introduction

In a chilling case of familial betrayal and violence, a Faridabad court on Friday, November 24, 2024, sentenced a woman, Pooja, and her lover, Ajay, to life imprisonment for the brutal 2018 murders of her husband and father-in-law. The judgment was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Amrit Singh Chalia, who also imposed fines of Rs. 18,000 on Pooja and Rs. 15,000 on Ajay.

Case Background

The murders occurred on May 29, 2018, in Faridabad, where Pooja lived with her husband, Vinod Kumar (25), and his father, Siyaram (65). The couple had relocated from Noorpur village in Bareilly district to Faridabad to live with Siyaram.

Vinod’s brother, Vishnu, filed a police complaint after discovering the bodies of his brother and father in their home. Vishnu suspected Pooja’s involvement from the outset.

Police Investigation

The investigation revealed that Pooja maintained an extramarital affair with Ajay even after her marriage to Vinod. Despite Vinod’s repeated attempts to dissuade her from continuing the relationship, Pooja refused to sever ties with Ajay.

On the night of May 29, 2018, Pooja and Ajay executed their plan to murder Vinod and Siyaram. According to the police:

  • The duo used a pan, an iron rod, and a stick to bludgeon both victims to death.
  • After committing the murders, Pooja and Ajay attempted to cover their tracks, but the crime scene and subsequent investigation led to their arrest.

Both were taken into judicial custody following their arrest.

Judgment and Sentencing

After over six years of trial, Judge Amrit Singh Chalia sentenced both Pooja and Ajay to life imprisonment for their roles in the murders. The court found sufficient evidence to establish their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

Advocate Ravindra Gupta, representing the prosecution, stated:
“The police investigation provided a clear timeline and motive for the crime. The brutality of the murders warranted the life sentence delivered by the court.”

In addition to the life sentence, Pooja and Ajay were ordered to pay fines of Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 15,000, respectively.

Legal Implications

This case highlights the judiciary’s commitment to delivering justice in cases of domestic violence and premeditated murder. The judgment underscores that:

  1. Motive and premeditation play a significant role in securing convictions in criminal cases.
  2. The court will consider the gravity and brutality of the crime when determining sentences.
  3. Extramarital relationships leading to violent acts will be met with severe legal consequences.

Conclusion

The Faridabad court’s decision to impose life imprisonment reflects the judiciary’s strict stance against domestic crimes and betrayal of familial trust. The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked extramarital affairs and violence within families.
