4th National Lok Adalat Resolves Over 1.45 Crore Cases, Facilitates Settlements Worth ₹7,462 Crores

Keyword: 4th National Lok Adalat 2024, NALSA case resolution, speedy justice in India

In a groundbreaking achievement, the 4th National Lok Adalat of 2024, organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), successfully resolved an impressive 1,45,47,595 cases by 7:00 PM on December 14, 2024. This includes the settlement of 1,21,78,509 pre-litigation disputes and 23,69,086 pending cases. The resolved cases span a diverse range of disputes, including criminal, civil, consumer, and other legal matters.

The initiative has led to a cumulative settlement amount of approximately ₹7,462.54 crores, showcasing the efficiency of Lok Adalats in delivering quick and cost-effective justice. The large-scale success of this year’s Lok Adalat reflects NALSA’s dedication to easing the burden on the formal judicial system while ensuring equitable access to justice for all, especially marginalized communities.

The event was guided by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Hon’ble Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai. Their leadership emphasizes the growing significance of Lok Adalats in addressing the pendency of cases and strengthening the justice delivery system.

Lok Adalats, conducted nationwide under the NALSA framework, provide a platform for dispute resolution through mutual settlement. This mechanism reduces the backlog of cases in courts and saves time and money for litigants. By offering speedy and amicable resolutions, Lok Adalats have become an indispensable tool in India’s legal landscape.

The success of the 4th National Lok Adalat reaffirms NALSA’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency of justice delivery across the country. Additionally, Rajasthan is set to hold its state-specific Lok Adalat on December 21 and 22, 2024, further contributing to the nationwide effort.

As India grapples with a growing backlog of cases in formal courts, the increasing reliance on Lok Adalats underscores their critical role in providing accessible, speedy, and affordable justice. The outcomes of the 4th National Lok Adalat serve as a testament to the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, marking yet another milestone in India’s journey toward a more efficient legal system.
